You Know What I Miss Most?

Living in Panama has great challenges and brings great joy.

Through the past almost 3 years, I've thought about how this life compares to the one we had in the US.

As the past 34 months have passed, I've noticed that my "miss list" has evolved.

Chick-Fil-A and Sonic.  Totally over those places.  Don't think my vegan self would make it very far with their offerings.

Wal-Mart and Publix.  I will never completely get over the loss of coupons from my life.  Gone are the days of $40/week grocery trips.  Last Saturday, our grocery total was $170, and Camilla clapped for me because I had done so well.

It took a little while, but I now greatly miss ordering online, and it being delivered to my house.  I miss ordering online without thinking about whether that will put the suitcase over 50 pounds.

Weddings.  Birthdays.  Funerals.  I've missed them all.  Memories I don't have and never will.

That's just part of the deal.

But, you know what I miss?  I mean really, really miss?

Picking up the phone for a quick conversation with a friend.  Calling my mom to ask about a sick child's symptoms.  The 5-minute chats with my Dad while he's on his way to work.

I miss those simple interactions that remind you that you are in relationship with people.   I miss the easy, seemingly insignificant communications that I never knew I valued so much.

Do me a favor.  Will you?  Pick up the phone and call someone you love, value, or miss, and ask them about the weather at their house.  Or about what they did this weekend.  Just something simple that reminds them that even their seemingly insignificant life details matter to someone.  The truth is that all those insignificant questions- when translated- mean "Love you!"

So, what are y'all having for dinner?
